Call me, maybe. Or not.

‘My battery’s dying, got to run.
‘Sorry, the signal’s horrible, chat later’.
Sound familiar? If you hate talking on the phone, it turns out you’re not alone.
In fact, if you’re a Gen Z-er or a Millennial, this is normal behaviour. You’re glued to your phone, but there are so many better ways to communicate than a call. One study shows that given the choice between being able to leave home with either your phone OR your wallet, 62% said their phone. Duh.
So, like, where did this all begin? The concept of the SMS was first developed in 1984, but it took another 10 years for the first SMS to be sent. Can you guess what it was? Merry Christmas.
In 1993, phones started supporting text messages. But it took until the early 2000s for people to hang up their landline and switch to texting their friends.
The word ‘texting’ was officially added to the Cambridge dictionary in 2010. Ah, it feels like just the other day. So much has changed, and yet so little.
And now, we use our phones to make P2P payments. Person-to-person. You send money to someone else, without accessing anyone’s bank account. In fact, paying family and friends is as easy as sending a text. Instant. Free. Easy.
How easy? Open your Spot App. Tap the ‘S’ button. Choose ‘Spot a friend’ from the menu. Type in your friend’s name, or search your phone contacts. Ka-ching.
We’re here to help you split bills, not friendships. If you paid for the nosh, a cash request gets you back your dosh. Electronic. Instant. Super-secure. Money’s social, so choose to share what you’re spending your money on. Or keep it private. Totally up to you.
Spot is free to download. No monthly account fees. No fees to spot a friend. What’s the catch? There’s no catch. Well, feelings … maybe.
Download Spot Money and make your money move.
